AOI completes first-ever turbine overhaul for fertilizer plants in Egypt

The Arab Organization for Industrialization has carried out a full repair and overhaul of high-speed turbines used in nitrogen fertilizer plants, marking a first in Egypt’s industrial history.

EGYPT – The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) has reached a key milestone after completing a full overhaul and repair of turbines used in nitrogen fertilizer plants inside Egypt for the first time.

The work signals growing local capacity to handle complex industrial maintenance and reduce dependence on foreign services.

AOI Chairperson Mokhtar Abdel Latif said the organization remains committed to expanding collaboration with all ministries and both public and private entities. “This cooperation is the optimal path toward achieving comprehensive and sustainable development,” he stated.

According to Abdel Latif, AOI’s Engine Factory handled a complete overhaul of a high-speed steam turbine. The process involved precise measurements, chemical analysis, and non-destructive testing using modern, high-accuracy equipment.

The factory also managed to secure all needed materials and spare parts in record time, which allowed the team to complete the work swiftly and restore full operational efficiency.

Engineers manufactured the tools required for turning, grinding, and checking turbine components, following all engineering and international quality standards.

Advanced repair steps included chemical cleaning with steam and dry ice, along with precision machining and grinding using specialized equipment.

“In the past, such vital and sensitive components were sent abroad for maintenance and repair, a process that could take up to a full year,” Abdel Latif said. “This time, the overhaul was completed domestically within just 25 days of continuous work.”

He added that the success came through the joint efforts of AOI’s Engine, Aircraft, and Electronics Factories, all of which brought together their expertise to complete the task with accuracy and speed.

Strengthening local industry

Abdel Latif noted that this marks a first-of-its-kind achievement for Egypt and shows the organization’s technical strength and human capability.

“This milestone underscores our advanced technological and technical capacities and our ability to manage complex industrial repairs in record time,” he said.

He further explained that the effort supports the government’s drive to expand local manufacturing and cut reliance on foreign services.

“AOI remains committed to serving Egyptian industries and partner nations by providing domestic manufacturing, repair, and maintenance services for vital production equipment,” Abdel Latif emphasized.

“Preserving and modernizing investment machinery is essential to safeguarding Egypt’s industrial assets and long-term development goals.”

This latest achievement adds to AOI’s growing record of strengthening Egypt’s industrial self-sufficiency. In recent months, the organization has also advanced work in renewable energy and transportation equipment manufacturing, both aimed at supporting the national strategy for industrial localization and sustainable growth.

By completing this turbine overhaul entirely within Egypt, AOI has shown that the country’s engineers and factories can now handle high-level technical work once reserved for foreign facilities, a sign of stronger national capability in the industrial sector.
