UPL urges world leaders to place farmers at the center of climate action.

INDIA – UPL launched a major global campaign titled #AFarmerCan The hero you don’t know you need, calling for world leaders to place farmers at the center of climate action ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
The company announced the campaign in London on 6 November 2025 and stressed that farmers continue to lead climate solutions but rarely receive the attention they deserve.
UPL works in more than 140 countries and engages closely with smallholder and commercial growers. The company says this global reach gives it a clear view of how farmers drive climate action through better soil care, water saving, lower emissions, stronger biodiversity, and smarter energy use.
UPL has gathered 20 farmer stories from different regions to show how these efforts work in real life.
The company has urged policymakers and the public to support farmers with better tools, fairer rewards, and wider recognition. UPL says this support can help farmers stay strong in a warming world and keep global food systems steady.
The company has also shared a four part plan that focuses on farmer rewards, protection, market access, and digital tools.
While speaking about the campaign, UPL Chairman and Group CEO Jai Shroff said the message aims to shift climate talks toward the people growing the world’s food. “With #AFarmerCan, we are amplifying a simple but urgent message: the future of climate resilience begins in the fields. Farmers are already leading the way innovating, adapting, and regenerating. Yet their contributions remain under-recognized in global climate discourse. This campaign is our call to policymakers, institutions, and consumers to stand with farmers, empower them, and make them central to climate action.”
Activations across Brazil and other markets
UPL has started a wide global rollout that includes airport signs, more than 1,000 branded taxis, and 200 buses in Belém carrying QR codes linked to farmer stories. Digital outreach, social media content, and a short film highlight farmers as climate heroes. The company has also produced eco friendly items such as T-shirts, tote bags, and water bottles.
During COP30, UPL will operate inside the Blue Zone and serve carbon smart coffee sourced from Brazil’s Mió brand. The company says the coffee absorbs more CO₂ than it releases, giving delegates a direct feel of climate smart farming. As part of this effort, UPL has secured rights to use official conference branding.
UPL will also present its Agrosphere at the AgriZone space organized by Embrapa. The company plans to host expert panels showing how soil, water, energy, GHG cuts, and biodiversity support global climate goals. UPL will take part in the Planeta Campo Forum and share a case study on low methane rice from India.
UPL says #AFarmerCan marks its long term commitment to support farmers and strengthen global food systems through climate smart practices.
