Egypt launches nationwide agricultural advisory convoys to support farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture moves to strengthen cooperatives and improve direct support for farmers across Egypt.

EGYPT – Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, has announced a new set of initiatives aimed at improving farm productivity and strengthening the role of agricultural cooperatives.

The ministry will launch nationwide agricultural advisory convoys to provide farmers with technical support and hands-on training.

Speaking during a meeting with farmers, Minister Farouk said the government is committed to improving conditions in the agricultural sector through practical solutions and stronger communication. “Enhancing the role of agricultural associations is key to empowering producers and improving productivity,” he said.

Farouk noted that amendments to the Agricultural Cooperatives Law will make farmer groups more effective in addressing farmers’ needs. The changes will help cooperatives serve as a solid support base, providing access to inputs, information, and financial services.

Farmers at the meeting shared challenges around fertilizer supply, production inputs, irrigation, and crop marketing. Farouk assured them that the ministry will act quickly on these issues. “We will maintain an open-door policy to ensure direct and ongoing communication with farmers, breeders, and producers across the country,” he said.

The new convoys will bring together experts from agricultural research centers who will work directly in the field. They will offer advisory services on crop cultivation, livestock care, poultry management, pest control, animal vaccination, and livestock insurance.

These efforts aim to close the gap between research and practice, helping farmers apply modern methods more effectively.

Direct action and farmer engagement

Farouk also announced the formation of an urgent committee to follow up on farmers’ proposals and remove any administrative delays. “We will act without delay to resolve obstacles and ensure that the voices of farmers are heard,” he stated.

Farmers attending the session welcomed the ministry’s approach and expressed satisfaction with the direct engagement. Many highlighted that the new communication channels will allow for faster problem-solving and better access to technical information.

In related news, the ministry confirmed that it will expand training programs for young agricultural engineers to improve on-site extension services. These programs will focus on climate-smart practices, water management, and sustainable soil use.

Farouk said these steps align with Egypt’s broader plan to strengthen food security and support rural livelihoods.

He added that the ministry remains committed to collaboration with local communities and development partners. “Our goal is to support every farmer, no matter how small, and to ensure that agricultural development reaches every part of Egypt,” Farouk said.

With these efforts, Egypt’s agriculture sector moves toward a more inclusive and practical support system that connects research, policy, and production at the community level.
