Krop AI wins Best Startup Award at MES 2026

Indian agri-tech start-up recognized for innovative hydroponic farming solutions.

INDIA – Krop AI Private Limited has been awarded the Best Startup Award at MES 2026, highlighting its role in promoting climate-smart, AI-driven agriculture in India.

The award ceremony took place in the presence of prominent industry and academic leaders, including Shantanu Deshpande, CEO of Bombay Shaving Company; Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education; and Commander (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal and Convener of MES 2026.

Dr. Manesh Thomas, CEO of Manipal-GoK Bioincubator, also attended and praised the start-up’s achievements. “Krop AI demonstrates how technology can reshape farming practices while supporting sustainable growth,” he said.

Founded in 2021 by Calvin Aranha and Farish Anfal, Krop AI has focused on developing AI-driven hydroponic systems that allow soil-less cultivation in controlled environments.

These systems help growers produce high-value crops such as lettuce, basil, kale, and parsley using far fewer resources. According to the company, the technology can reduce water consumption by up to 95 percent and cut operational costs by around 50 percent.

Scaling sustainable farming

Krop AI offers scalable container farm setups that have attracted several agri-entrepreneurs across India. The start-up projects an annual turnover of ₹3 crore (approximately US$360,000) for this year.

The founders note that their work aligns with national efforts to strengthen climate-resilient agriculture and enhance food security under initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat. “We aim to make modern farming more accessible and efficient for small and medium growers,” said Calvin Aranha, co-founder.

The start-up is also exploring collaborations with regional agricultural research centers to expand its reach and support local communities. Farish Anfal added, “By combining AI with practical farming solutions, we can help farmers adapt to changing climate conditions and increase yield without putting extra pressure on natural resources.”

Krop AI’s recognition at MES 2026 reflects a growing interest in technology-driven agriculture solutions that balance productivity and sustainability.

As the start-up continues to expand its operations, it remains committed to helping India meet its food security and environmental goals while supporting emerging agri-tech ventures through mentorship and collaboration.
