LDC earns top honors at FICCI Sustainable Agriculture Awards 2025

The agribusiness received first place in two categories for projects that support climate-ready farming communities in India.

INDIA – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has secured major recognition at the 5th FICCI Sustainable Agriculture Awards 2025, with its India operations taking first place in the Natural Resource Management and Climate Resilient Agriculture categories.

The awards highlight efforts that help farmers adjust to changing climate conditions, with LDC’s work in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar drawing attention for its focus on water security and farm practices that suit shifting rainfall patterns.

Recognition in India

Announcing the recognition on LinkedIn, the company said its projects supported local communities through practical on-farm action. “LDC in India was recognized for empowering farmers to adapt to changing climate conditions, at the 5th FICCI Sustainable Agriculture Awards 2025,” the company stated.

LDC linked the award to work that restored water storage capacity and improved groundwater recharge in areas facing erratic rainfall. The company also pointed to farmer training that emphasized efficient input use, ecofriendly pest control, and biodiversity planting.

Reflecting on the team effort behind the projects, LDC added, “We’re proud of the dedication of Team LDC, in collaborating with partners and farming communities toward more resilient agricultural value chains.”

Other awardees and focus areas

The 2025 edition of the FICCI awards recognized several agribusinesses for sustainability leadership across the sector. McCain Foods India received recognition for farm-level sustainability initiatives linked to direct farmer engagement and responsible potato sourcing.

Organizers acknowledged other companies across areas such as soil and water conservation, farmer support, climate-smart practices, and digital tools, with additional names expected as disclosures continue into 2026.

The awards aim to spotlight approaches that improve farmer incomes, protect natural resources, and strengthen farms against climate stress, while encouraging responsible practices across supply chains.

Why the recognition matters

While the awards focus on India, the implications extend beyond the country. The FICCI platform offers a global reference point for how sustainability efforts gain recognition within large agricultural systems.

For African agribusinesses, including companies active in fresh produce and commodity trading, the award themes mirror challenges seen across East Africa, from water management to farmer training.

By linking Indian case studies with African realities, the awards create room for comparison on what works in building climate-ready farms and steady supply chains.
