Pottinger introduces largest Terradisc model at 12.5m

The new Terradisc HT 12000 is designed for high-horsepower tractors and advanced fieldwork.

AUSTRALIA – Pottinger has expanded its Terradisc line with the launch of its largest trailed disc harrow yet, the 12.5m Terradisc HT 12000.

The model is built for tractors ranging between 450 and 720 horsepower, aiming to meet the growing demand for stronger machinery.

This size of tractor is becoming more common on large farms. Fendt, for example, now offers 550 horsepower in its 1000 series while the latest Steiger Quadtrac can deliver 853 horsepower at peak output.

Manufacturers recognize that implements capable of handling such machines may not sell in high numbers, but they remain essential for showcasing range and meeting diverse needs.

According to Pottinger, the Terradisc HT 12000 suits a wide range of tasks, from seedbed preparation to stubble cultivation with heavy harvest residues. “It provides consistent results across different conditions,” a company spokesperson said.

The working width of 12.5m puts the new unit above the existing Terradisc 8001 T and 10001 T, which measure 8m and 10m respectively.

Despite its size, the HT 12000 retains the standard two-disc carriers and two concave discs per clamping bracket found in smaller models. With a 380mm-wide contact surface between bracket and frame, the discs stay in line regardless of soil conditions.

The discs, available in 580mm scalloped or plain versions, are mounted at a sharp angle to promote intensive soil movement and allow shallow tillage from as little as 5cm.

The frame divides into four independent sections, each adapting to uneven ground. Inner sections can move between -3° and +6°, while outer sections adjust between -4.5° and +4.5°.

Hydraulic pre-tensioning ensures equal ground pressure across all sections, which farmers can adjust to match soil type.

The unit uses four double-acting spool valves with intelligent presets to regulate working depth, headland position, ground pressure, and side pull correction.

Another standout feature is the long drawbar, which enables a steering angle of up to 85°. This makes tight turns possible, even behind wide tractors.

The new Terradisc highlights the shift toward larger implements in modern farming. Farmers increasingly look for machines that can cover more ground in less time without compromising performance.

While this model will mainly appeal to larger farms, Pottinger sees it as an important addition to its line-up.

“The HT 12000 shows our commitment to offering solutions across all farm sizes,” the company noted.

This launch follows other recent advances in cultivation equipment, with manufacturers racing to keep pace with bigger tractors and changing field demands.

The Terradisc HT 12000 is now the largest in Pottinger’s range and signals the company’s confidence in the future of high-capacity machinery.
