CH4 Global honoured for climate-smart innovation as EcoPark expansion drives methane reduction

The awards highlight solutions that address climate challenges while advancing sustainable business practices.

USA – CH4 Global, a biotechnology company developing climate-smart solutions for livestock, has won two prestigious SEAL Awards for its proprietary Methane Tamer feed supplement, which reduces methane emissions from cows by up to 90%.

The 2026 SEAL (Sustainability, Environmental Achievement and Leadership) Awards, announced in the US, recognised the company’s innovation in sustainable livestock production and its global impact on climate change.

Methane, a greenhouse gas with more than 80 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide over 20 years, is responsible for a significant share of global livestock emissions.

CH4 Global’s solution harnesses Asparagopsis, a red seaweed native to southern Australian and New Zealand waters.

The company received the SEAL Environmental Initiative Award for its pioneering work in reducing global methane emissions.

CH4 Global also won the SEAL Sustainable Product Award, which honours innovative products designed for a sustainable future. Methane Tamer was recognised as a purpose-built solution that directly addresses greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture.

EcoPark expansion

The recognition comes as the company expands its pioneering EcoPark in South Australia, scaling seaweed cultivation to meet growing demand for climate-smart livestock solutions.

Phase one of the EcoPark, opened in 2025, features 10 large-scale cultivation ponds with a combined capacity of 2 million litres, capable of producing 80 metric tonnes of Asparagopsis annually.

When incorporated into cattle feed at just 0.5% of the diet, the additive disrupts an enzymatic process in the animal’s digestive system, reducing methane emissions by up to 90%. The product is scientifically validated, safe, and developed through a proprietary cultivation and processing method.

Beef from cattle consuming Methane Tamer is already being sold in butchers’ and restaurants across South Australia, with supermarket distribution expected soon. This marks a significant step in bringing climate-smart livestock products directly to consumers.

Founder and CEO Steve Meller said the recognition reflects years of effort to build a new seaweed industry in South Australia with global impact.

“It’s rewarding to be recognised for our efforts to bend the climate curve, alongside other major international organisations taking steps to change, whether it be embedding circular economy principles, recycling plastics, reducing carbon footprints or building living sea walls,” he said.

CH4 Global’s recognition demonstrates how targeted agricultural innovation can deliver measurable environmental benefits, proving that sustainable livestock practices can scale from local initiatives to global impact.
