Elevate Farms acquires Fieldless Farms in strategic Canadian deal

The acquisition reflects growing pressure on Canada’s food supply and rising focus on local production.

CANADA – Elevate Farms has acquired Fieldless Farms, making Fieldless a wholly owned subsidiary while keeping its brand and operations in Cornwall, Ontario.

The move links technology-driven farming systems with market-focused production at a time when tariffs and logistics costs affect food imports.

“The acquisition comes at a pivotal moment for Canada’s food ecosystem,” says Jon Lomow, CEO of Fieldless Farms. “With shifting global trade policies and new U.S. tariffs disrupting Canadian food imports and demand, investing in local production has never been more important.”

From technology to market reach

The agreement arrives as volatility in food trade moves from risk to daily reality. Tariffs, cross-border uncertainty, and rising transport costs have strengthened the case for domestic production, especially for fresh crops where shelf life and distance affect both price and waste.

Elevate Farms focuses on vertical farming technology and autonomous growing systems developed from research at the University of Guelph, with support from NASA technology transfer. Fieldless Farms concentrates on market execution, supplying pesticide-free leafy greens grown with renewable energy. Its packaging design reduces plastic use by up to 90% across Canadian retail channels.

“As a result of the successful completion of the acquisition of Fieldless Farms by Elevate, two world-class industry innovators have been united to create one of Canada’s most ambitious food corporations,” says Amin Jadavji, CEO of Elevate Farms. “Together, Elevate and Fieldless are building a homegrown success story championing Canadian food sovereignty and security while unlocking opportunities for accelerated global expansion.”

Focus on food independence

Food sovereignty has shaped Fieldless Farms since its launch. Lomow says the transaction reflects real shifts in the market rather than abstract goals.

“We founded Fieldless to build a national household brand that stands for better, more sustainable food, all while supporting Canadian food independence,” he says. “Fieldless joining Elevate allows us to continue to pursue that vision.”

Brad Lamb, chairman of Elevate Farms, says the acquisition strengthens both domestic supply and export potential.

“By bringing Fieldless into the Elevate family, we’re creating a Canadian food powerhouse that will not only feed Canadians more of the products customers have come to love, but also export Canadian prosperity by feeding the world,” he says.

Both companies describe the transaction as additive. Elevate Farms continues pipeline projects in the United States, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates, while Fieldless Farms maintains its retail presence and consumer-facing identity.

“I’m proud of the foundation that’s been laid, and confident in what can be built upon it,” Lomow says.

The acquisition signals a shift in how Canadian food companies respond to global trade pressure, rising costs, and demand for reliable local supply.
