USA – Frunature, based in Pompano Beach, Florida, has unveiled a new packaging format for fresh organic ginger designed to enhance store handling and address consumer concerns.
The Pillow Pack is engineered to protect the ginger from damage and ensure better food safety and sanitation.
“Since the pandemic, we’ve noticed a significant shift in consumer interest towards fresh organic ginger,” said Peter Warren, the company’s US sales representative.
“Most ginger was previously displayed loosely, leading to damage and higher shrink rates due to excessive handling. Our new packaging addresses these issues effectively.”
The Pillow Pack meets modern hygiene standards by minimizing direct contact between consumers and the product.
“With growing awareness about sanitation, consumers prefer packaged items that reduce the risk of contamination,” Warren explained. “This pack not only ensures safety but also adds convenience.”
Frunature’s owner and managing director, Aldo Ramirez, emphasized the package’s multifaceted benefits. “We designed this packaging to be visually appealing, environmentally friendly, and practical for both consumers and retailers. Most importantly, it is tailored to protect the ginger,” said Ramirez. He also manages Nativa Organics, a Peruvian grower-exporter that works closely with Frunature.
Ramirez, who founded Frunature in 2019 to facilitate US business operations for Nativa, praised Warren for his role in advancing the company’s marketing and sales efforts. “Peter’s expertise in packaging and distribution makes him an invaluable asset to our team,” Ramirez added.
The Pillow Pack has already been well-received, having been highlighted as the most innovative product at the recent Organic Produce Summit in Monterrey. “We’re thrilled with the positive feedback. The package’s sustainable design, using a paper/plastic blend, addresses environmental concerns while maintaining the quality of the ginger,” Ramirez noted.
The packaging features micro perforations to control condensation, keeping the ginger fresh whether refrigerated or stored at room temperature.
Additionally, the design offers ample space for marketing information, such as nutrition facts and recipes, which can attract consumer interest.
“This packaging also provides a great merchandising opportunity,” Warren said. “Retailers will find it easier to display the product attractively, aligning with current trends in produce packaging.”
Frunature is currently using the Pillow Pack for fresh organic ginger from Peru and plans to extend its use to turmeric and potentially garlic soon.
For the foodservice sector, the company is introducing the Air Pack, a recyclable plastic box with excellent ventilation that can be repurposed for other uses, appealing particularly to chefs.
Frunature has been actively expanding its product offerings and market presence. Recently, they have focused on enhancing the quality and freshness of their organic ginger and garlic.
They emphasize sustainable farming practices and have received certifications that validate their commitment to high-quality produce.
These efforts are part of their strategy to meet global culinary needs and maintain their reputation for premium products.
