GDM finalizes acquisition of AgReliant Genetics, strengthening seed market presence

Global plant genetics leader expands its footprint with AgReliant’s well-known corn and soybean seed brands.

USA – GDM, a global plant genetics company, has completed the acquisition of AgReliant Genetics, securing 100 percent ownership of the North American seed provider.

The move strengthens GDM’s growth strategy in the United States and Canada, combining its global expertise in crop genetics with AgReliant’s strong presence in corn and soybean seeds.

“Today marks a transformative moment in the history of our company and journey in the North American market,” said Ignacio Bartolomé, chief executive officer of GDM.

“By welcoming AgReliant into the GDM family, we are creating a North American agricultural powerhouse poised to offer farmers an unmatched portfolio of high-performance seed solutions in soybeans and corn.”

The acquisition brings together AgReliant’s recognized brands such as AgriGold, LG Seeds and PRIDE Seeds with GDM’s DONMARIO, Mustang, Revere and Virtue lines.

In addition, GDM gains access to one of the largest temperate corn genetic pools worldwide and the fourth largest corn research program in North America.

With these assets, GDM enhances its global leadership in soybean genetics while becoming the fourth largest provider of corn genetics worldwide.

The deal positions the company to deliver more innovation and value to farmers seeking stronger yields and wider seed options.

Leadership and market impact

Brian Barker, who previously served as chief executive officer of AgReliant, has been appointed as GDM’s North American President. He emphasized the significance of the integration.

“Today marks a powerful step forward as we unite under a shared purpose – to be exceptional partners to our customers and advance agriculture in a way that consistently drives higher seed and yield performance,” Barker said.

“Together, we are building a more powerful, innovative and integrated portfolio of seed solutions that creates more choice, more value and greater yield potential to North American growers.”

Industry analysts view the deal as a strong step that could influence seed availability, farmer decision-making, and competition in the North American market. The combined strength of both companies is expected to increase investment in research while also boosting product diversity.

The acquisition also comes at a time when seed companies are increasing efforts to improve crop resilience and output amid changing weather conditions and higher food demand. GDM’s expansion signals confidence in the North American market while reinforcing its global role in crop genetics.

As GDM continues to integrate AgReliant’s operations, farmers across North America can expect broader access to new seed technologies, research-driven innovations, and trusted brands that have long been part of their growing seasons.
