Mahindra tractor sales jump 46% in January as domestic demand strengthens

Strong reservoir levels and higher Rabi sowing support higher tractor sales, while exports also record sharp growth.

INDIA – Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.’s Farm Equipment Business recorded a strong start to 2026, reporting a 46 per cent rise in domestic tractor sales in January compared to the same month last year.

The company sold 38,484 tractors in the Indian market in January 2026, up from 26,305 units in January 2025. Total tractor sales, including exports, reached 40,643 units, compared with 27,557 units a year earlier. Exports stood at 2,159 units, marking a 72 per cent increase year on year.

Commenting on the performance, Veejay Nakra, President of the Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., said, “We have sold 38,484 tractors in the domestic market during January 2026 registering a robust growth of 46 per cent over last year.” He added that healthy reservoir levels supported record Rabi sowing across several regions.

“Expectations of government support and higher allocation in rural development in the budget today should positively influence agriculture and farm mechanization in the coming months,” Nakra said. On exports, he noted, “We have sold 2,159 tractors, a growth of 72 per cent over last year.”

Domestic and export performance

Cumulative domestic tractor sales for January stood at 430,374 units, compared with 350,632 units during the same period last year, reflecting a 23 per cent increase. Cumulative exports rose to 16,861 units from 13,548 units, up 24 per cent. Overall cumulative tractor sales reached 447,235 units, compared with 364,180 units last year.

The company attributed the steady rise in demand to better farm income expectations and continued interest in mechanization among farmers.

Recent product launch adds momentum

The strong sales performance follows the recent introduction of the Limited-Edition Yuvo Tech+ 585 DI 4WD tractors, launched on Republic Day. Mahindra Tractors introduced the special models in Metallic Orange, Everest White, and Metallic Green, with the green version offering added accessories such as a rope, jerrican, and a Mahindra flag.

The Yuvo Tech+ 585 DI 4WD features a four-cylinder engine with a maximum PTO output of 33.9 kW (45.4 HP) and peak torque of 215 Nm. With a 2,000 kg hydraulic lift and multiple transmission options, Mahindra expects the model to support a wide range of farm operations and sustain demand in the coming months.
