Nigeria’s Bauchi Governor distributes 40 tractors to strengthen rural farming

Governor Bala Mohammed says the move will support farmers, restore land, and tackle climate-related challenges across Bauchi State.

NIGERIA – Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, Nigeria, has distributed 40 newly procured tractors to support rural farmers and improve agricultural output across the state.

In a statement shared on his verified X account, Mohammed said he personally supervised the distribution of the tractors and other heavy duty equipment under the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes programme, known as ACReSAL, which receives support from World Bank.

“Today, I supervised the distribution of 40 newly procured tractors, alongside other heavy duty equipment, under the ACReSAL programme supported by the World Bank,” the governor said.

Mohammed said the equipment will ease farm work and help farmers increase output. He stressed that climate change continues to affect the state through irregular rainfall, land degradation, long dry seasons, and flooding.

“This initiative reflects my administration’s strong commitment to agricultural modernization, environmental protection, and the improvement of livelihoods in rural communities across Bauchi State,” he said.

He added that modern machinery will help farmers cultivate larger areas and support ongoing land restoration efforts. According to him, the state government will continue to work with global development partners to improve living standards and expand economic opportunities.

ACReSAL coordinator speaks

The Bauchi State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Kabir, said the state procured the equipment to strengthen the implementation of the programme. He explained that the tractors and machinery will help farmers improve productivity while promoting environmentally responsible farming practices.

“The machinery will boost productivity, promote environmentally sustainable farming practices, and reduce the adverse effects of climate related challenges,” Kabir said.

He also praised the governor for backing the programme and assured residents that officials will maintain the equipment properly to secure long term benefits for communities across the state.

The distribution forms part of the state’s wider plan to support rural agriculture and address the impact of climate change on farming households.
