Oman’s Al Batinah South offers over 15 agri food investment projects across 150 acres

The governorate seeks private sector investment to expand food production and support Oman’s food security goals.

OMAN – The Al Batinah South Governorate has announced more than 15 new investment projects in agriculture and food production across 150 acres of land, as local authorities seek stronger private sector participation in the country’s food supply.

Officials from the Directorate General of Housing and Urban Planning said investors can access the projects through the Tatweer platform. The opportunities include citrus and lemon farms, agricultural nurseries, and fish farming operations.

Engineer Ahmed bin Saud al Kumyani, Director General of Housing and Urban Planning in Al Batinah South, said the initiative supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which promotes economic growth and stronger local food production.

“These projects give investors access to land prepared for agriculture and food activities. We want to support the private sector while expanding food production in the governorate,” said al Kumyani.

The land areas will support different farming activities that match the region’s climate and natural conditions. Authorities expect the projects to increase local food output and support supply chains linked to agriculture and fisheries.

Officials from the Directorate said they worked closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources to prepare the projects and ensure clear technical and regulatory guidance for investors.

“We designed these opportunities to encourage productive investment and strengthen the food sector,” al Kumyani added.

Authorities also expect the projects to create jobs in farming, aquaculture, and related services across the governorate.

Wider national food security efforts

The announcement comes as Oman expands cooperation with global partners to strengthen food supply and resource management.

Earlier this year, Oman signed a five year cooperation plan with the Food and Agriculture Organization covering the period from 2026 to 2030. The agreement focuses on farming, water use, fisheries, and food value chains.

Ahmed bin Nasser Al Bakri signed the plan for the government, while AbdulHakim Elwaer represented the FAO.

“This framework gives us a clear path to improve food supply and strengthen the way we manage land and water,” said Al Bakri during the signing ceremony.

FAO Director General Qu Dongyu said the organization will continue to support Oman’s work in research, training, and improved farming practices.

Local officials in Al Batinah South said the new investment projects complement these national efforts by increasing domestic food production and creating stronger links between farming, fisheries, and the private sector.
