The deal brings together two family-owned companies committed to sustainability and growth.

LATVIA – Pindstrup Mosebrug A/S has acquired Compaqpeat, a family-owned substrate producer, in a move that expands production capacity and strengthens its presence in global markets.
The acquisition also creates opportunities for both companies to advance sustainable solutions in the horticultural sector.
Pindstrup CEO René Gjerding described the acquisition as a step that secures long-term growth for both companies. “Firstly, I wish to thank the previous owners and managers, Rasa and Johann Martens, for their dedication to creating Compaqpeat as a well-run, modern substrate company, and for their trust in Pindstrup as the new owners. With the acquisition of Compaqpeat, Pindstrup is well-equipped to grow further and meet the increasing demand for growing media, which rises year by year due to the growing need to cultivate food and plants,” he said.
Gjerding also emphasized the potential to expand product innovation. “A larger and stronger Pindstrup also means we have even better opportunities to develop innovative solutions based on renewable and circular raw materials, helping our customers achieve high yields in their greenhouses with lower resource consumption,” he added.
Compaqpeat has produced peat-based substrates, including peat-reduced products, for years. With Pindstrup’s experience in alternative raw materials such as self-produced wood fibre, which has a lower CO₂ footprint, the acquisition opens new possibilities to reduce environmental impact while supporting crop performance.
Rasa Martens, former CEO and co-owner of Compaqpeat, highlighted the personal value of the company and the importance of choosing the right successor.
“Compaqpeat has always been more than a business – it has been like a child to us. Having grown the company over the last 18 years together with our dedicated employees, it was extremely important for Johann and me that Compaqpeat would continue in the right hands. We are confident that Pindstrup, as a family-owned company sharing our values and commitment to quality and sustainability, is the right choice. This change of ownership will bring benefits to our employees, clients, and partners, and we are very happy that Compaqpeat is entering this new chapter in the right hands.”
The acquisition reflects a partnership between two companies that share long-term goals, family ownership, and strong dedication to sustainable practices.
As part of the deal, Pindstrup has appointed a new management team for Compaqpeat. Edijs Ločmels and Uģis Veinbergs, who have both held leadership roles in Pindstrup Latvia, will serve as co-directors of the subsidiary. With this step, Pindstrup now operates three factories in Latvia.
Earlier this year, Pindstrup marked another milestone when Mayor of Aalborg, Lasse Frimand Jensen, joined CEO René Gjerding to unveil a commemorative plaque at the company’s new facility.
Together with the Compaqpeat acquisition, the expansion signals Pindstrup’s intention to grow responsibly while supporting sustainable food and plant production worldwide.
