PM Modi inaugurates Mahindra tractors skill development centre in Gadchiroli

The new centre aims to train rural youth with practical skills for jobs in the farm equipment sector.

INDIA – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the Mahindra Tractors Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.

The centre, set up at Government ITI College in partnership with the Department of Vocational Education and Training and the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society, is designed to provide young people with hands-on training and job opportunities in the farm equipment industry.

During the launch, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of building strong opportunities for rural youth. The initiative aligns with the government’s wider push on skill development as a way to expand employment in smaller towns and villages.

The centre will train participants in tractor and farm machinery operations through structured courses, modern tools, and practical exposure. Graduates will then have the chance to find work in assembly units, service outlets, and dealerships.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra & Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business, said, “We at Mahindra are deeply honoured that our Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mahindra Tractor Skill Development Centre in Gadchiroli. Maharashtra is not just a leading industrial centre, but a state that is deeply connected to the Farm Sector’s growth journey. It is a matter of great pride for us to partner with the Government of Maharashtra, creating a future where our rural communities are uplifted by cultivating skills and harvesting hope.”

Mahindra’s long-term role

Mahindra Tractors has been India’s top tractor brand for decades and continues to maintain a strong presence both domestically and globally.

The company rolled out its first tractor in 1963 and reached a milestone of four million units sold worldwide by March 2024. Today, Mahindra operates across over 50 countries with manufacturing bases in India, North America, Brazil, Finland, Turkey, and Japan.

Its product portfolio covers more than 300 models designed for tough field conditions. The company also offers farm machinery solutions across the entire agri-machinery value chain, supported by India’s most extensive network for sales and service.

Growth in sales

The launch of the skill centre comes at a time when Mahindra is posting strong business growth. In September 2025, the Farm Equipment Business sold 64,946 tractors in the domestic market, a 50 percent increase compared to the same month last year. Including exports, total sales reached 66,111 units.

Commenting on the figures, Mr. Nakra said, “We have sold 64,946 tractors in the domestic market during September, a growth of 50% over last year. Honourable Prime Minister’s decision on the GST rate cut has increased offtake in the first 9 days of Navratri which is in the month of September this year compared to October last year. This has been further supported by factors like a positive Kharif outlook, increase in the area sown this season and an above-normal monsoon.”

The combination of strong market performance and new training facilities points to a growing role for Mahindra in both rural development and India’s agriculture-driven economy.
