The off-grid solar company expands services to western Kenya with a new centre at Mega Plaza Mall, Kisumu.

KENYA – Sun King has opened its first customer experience centre in Kisumu, creating a new point of access for clean and reliable energy solutions in western Kenya.
The Kisumu branch is the company’s second customer experience centre in Kenya, complementing its 163 shops spread nationwide. The launch reflects Sun King’s push to reach more households and businesses in under-electrified counties.
The centre is located on the ground floor of Mega Plaza Mall on Oginga Odinga Road. It gives customers a chance to see Sun King’s full product range, receive personal guidance, and get faster service.
Speaking during the launch, Victor Atandi, Vice President of EasyBuy Direct Sales for East and Southern Africa, said: “Opening our Kisumu experience centre is another step in our mission to bring affordable, reliable solar power to every Kenyan household and business. This centre gives our customers a place to explore our full range of products, receive hands-on support, and find the right energy solutions for their daily lives.”
County Executive Committee Member for Energy, Jerome Ochieng’, also attended the event and welcomed the move, noting that Kisumu and the larger western region have many homes and small businesses still in need of clean energy access.
Inside the new centre, trained staff guide visitors through products that range from simple lanterns to large solar inverter systems. Popular systems include HomePlus and HomePlus Pro, which light several rooms and allow phone charging.
Customers can also power radios, televisions, and fans. The PowerPlay Pro system supports small businesses such as barbershops and salons by keeping laptops, fridges, and WiFi routers running.
For schools, clinics, and large households, Sun King offers the PowerHub, which produces grid-like electricity through a multi-kilowatt inverter.
Sun King’s EasyBuy financing model allows customers to pay for products in affordable installments, making the technology more accessible.
A wider push for energy access
Kenya has made progress toward electrification, but challenges remain. According to current figures, 15.9 million people still lack access to electricity.
About 7.7 million people use basic Tier 1 solar services such as lighting and phone charging, while 2.5 million access Tier 2 services that support small appliances. The national electrification rate stands at 75 percent, but rural areas remain lower at 61.7 percent.
Off-grid solutions such as solar lanterns, home systems, and inverter systems remain popular across the country, with mini-grids also serving schools and health centers. Government-backed programs like the Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP) are also playing a key role.
KOSAP targets 14 underserved counties with plans to install 250,000 solar home systems, set up 120 mini-grids, electrify 387 public facilities, introduce 380 solar water pumps, and distribute 60,000 clean cooking stoves.
Experts note that financing models like EasyBuy and government support will keep driving solar adoption. As Kenya moves toward its Vision 2030 target of universal electricity access, companies like Sun King are expected to play a central role in bridging the energy gap.
The Kisumu centre will open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Customers can visit the shop or call 0709 474 333 for more details.
