Unifrutti strengthens global data systems to protect fruit quality

The grower-distributor says stronger digital systems help safeguard produce, reduce risks, and support operations across four continents.

USA – Unifrutti Group has partnered with Seattle-based IT firm Veeam to strengthen data protection across its global operations, which span more than 11,000 employees and 14,000 hectares of production.

The fresh produce company now tracks and protects information at every stage of harvesting, packaging, and shipping, helping to maintain quality and freshness across its supply chain.

“We gather and log data at every stage of harvesting, packaging, and shipping, with the goals of maximising quality and freshness,” said Dewet Blaauw, the group’s network and security manager. “We use this data to ensure the product is delivered to the end customer with the quality they expect, so maintaining complete records is essential to our profitability and ongoing optimisation of our crops.”

Unifrutti reports 99.995 per cent data availability and says it can recover from disruptions such as power outages or hardware failures in just eight minutes on average.

“Veeam boosts our cyber-resiliency on two counts,” Blaauw added. “First, by equipping us with reliable, easy-to-recover backups, and second, with powerful integrated threat detection, which helps us give even our most remote locations additional layers of protection against cybercrime.”

He also highlighted the stakes for the business. “If our systems go down, delicious fruit with a short window of freshness could go to waste. Months of cultivating the perfect crop could be lost to an IT failure. With Veeam, we can avoid that nightmare.”

Fraud warning to stakeholders

Alongside the digital upgrade, Unifrutti warned stakeholders about fraudulent activity using its name. Scammers have been contacting people through websites, emails, social media, phone calls, messaging apps, and in-person events, offering false investments, job opportunities, or visa assistance.

The company said it has no connection to these activities and urged the public to exercise caution when receiving messages or offers claiming to represent Unifrutti.

Industry observers say the combination of robust data systems and public alerts reflects the growing risks in global supply chains, where cyber threats and misinformation can disrupt operations and damage trust.

For Unifrutti, the priority remains protecting information, securing operations, and ensuring that fresh produce reaches customers in the condition they expect.
