The company strengthens its pineapple offer with unique varieties, global launches, and partnerships that aim to boost consumer interest and sales.

USA – Del Monte Fresh Produce is expanding its specialty pineapple portfolio as shoppers show strong interest in premium fruit and new varieties.
Ivan Brown, Senior Director of Marketing at Del Monte Fresh Produce, says the company is working with partners to increase visibility for its proprietary pineapples.
“From a performance standpoint, Pinkglow, Rubyglow, and Precious Mini Honeyglow have delivered consistent sell through, high consumer engagement, and repeat purchase,” Brown says. “That sustained demand translates into incremental category growth and stronger sales for our retail partners.”
The company says specialty pineapples now form part of a long term commercial plan that focuses on proprietary growing methods and consumer feedback.
“We strive to make pineapples that are one of one. We are launching products with a backstory,” Brown says.
Unique varieties and production
Del Monte introduced the Rubyglow pineapple in China in January 2024 and later in the United States. Brown says the fruit took nearly 16 years of development in Costa Rica and requires about two years to grow.
“It has been in development for nearly 16 years in Costa Rica, sourced from the tropical rainforest to ensure the freshest taste possible with the highest quality,” he says.
Pinkglow pineapples, introduced in 2020, rely on a production process unique to Del Monte.
“Fresh Del Monte is the only company to grow this unique pink pineapple variety, and it is grown by planting existing pineapple crowns in the ground, allowing new pineapples to grow,” Brown explains.
The Precious Mini Honeyglow focuses on harvest timing and growing conditions, with fruit that ripens slowly on the stem and is hand harvested at peak sweetness.
Global expansion and luxury fruit trend
Del Monte has used branded packaging, entertainment partnerships, and market expansion to reach consumers. The company partnered with Disney for promotions linked to the release of Zootopia 2 and expanded Pinkglow into the United Arab Emirates while launching Rubyglow in Europe and North America.
In the United States, Rubyglow pineapples sell at US$395.99 (US$395.99), highlighting the rise of luxury fruit. Analysts say some consumers continue to spend on premium produce despite economic pressure.
“Americans have become increasingly interested in new fruit varieties in recent years,” van Rijswick says. “They are ready to shell out for exciting new options.”
Del Monte says global interest in specialty pineapples has helped the company reach new markets and audiences. Brown says the company will continue to expand its portfolio as demand for distinctive fruit grows.
