EHPEA secures key IT support and strengthens partnership with Ethiopian cargo

The association is enhancing its digital capacity while working closely with Ethiopian Cargo to expand market reach for horticultural exports.

ETHIOPIA – The Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association (EHPEA) has received important IT equipment from TradeMark Africa (TMA) to support its Horti-Campus e-learning platform and improve knowledge management.

The new resources include 12 laptops, three desktop workstations, one editing desktop, one editing laptop, a Dell server, and uninterruptible power supply units.

During the handover, TMA’s Country Representative to Ethiopia, Ewnetu Taye, explained the purpose of the support.

“This is intended to build the e-learning delivery and knowledge management of EHPEA, thereby ensuring the competitiveness of Ethiopia’s horticulture exports internationally,” he said.

He urged the association to use the resources effectively and focus on developing the capacity of horticulture operators across the country.

EHPEA believes these upgrades will strengthen training for its members, improve efficiency, and enhance the quality of services provided to stakeholders in the horticulture value chain.

Alongside its digital boost, EHPEA has taken steps to improve logistics partnerships. Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services and EHPEA members met recently at the association’s headquarters to discuss joint plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

The meeting focused on aligning Ethiopian Cargo’s freight capacity with the needs of horticulture producers and ensuring products reach key markets worldwide without delay.

Ethiopian Cargo shared its performance from the previous fiscal year, confirming that it met its uplift targets for horticultural products. Farm representatives used the opportunity to discuss current market challenges and find ways to work more closely with the airline.

EHPEA Executive Director, Tewodros Zewdie, underlined the value of this cooperation. “Ethiopian Cargo and producers must work hand in hand to increase the volume of products being sent to markets like China and the USA,” he said.

He encouraged the airline to expand its services for fruits and vegetables and to offer competitive, affordable pricing. He also noted that the airline’s quality freighter service to Europe has been critical in linking Ethiopian producers with buyers in the Netherlands and other European countries.

This combined focus on stronger logistics and improved digital resources positions Ethiopia’s horticulture sector for growth. The upgraded IT infrastructure will help EHPEA train more producers and improve market readiness, while the strengthened cargo partnership will support timely delivery of fresh products to international buyers.

By investing in both technology and transport collaboration, the sector aims to increase efficiency, open more market opportunities, and improve returns for producers across the country.
