New hatchery project in East Java will produce 15 million chicks annually by 2026

INDONESIA – PT Jagonya Ayam Indonesia (JAI) has selected Royal Pas Reform’s hatchery technologies for a major expansion plan in East Java as the company strengthens its poultry production capacity to meet growing demand.
The company has commissioned a new fully integrated hatchery in Kalibaru district, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province. The facility, scheduled for completion in 2026, will produce up to 15 million day-old broiler chicks each year.
The installation will feature 12 SmartSetPro-4 setters and 8 SmartHatchPro hatchers. The single-stage design combined with Royal Pas Reform’s 162 setter tray will allow conditions to be adjusted for each batch of eggs.
According to JAI, this will improve chick uniformity while achieving large-scale capacity in a compact space.
Each setter will include an Energy Saving Module and Adaptive Metabolic Feedback (AMF), designed to match the environment to the needs of each embryo. The hatchers will run with SmartWatch technology, which regulates humidity and CO2 levels to improve outcomes.
The project also involves automation and climate control systems from Royal Pas Reform, covering egg handling, candling, transfer equipment, air handling units, cooling, and process water chillers.
SmartCenterPro software will provide real-time monitoring, control, and data analysis across all operations.
“JAI had exacting operational and performance requirements for the Kalibaru expansion project. Royal Pas Reform’s solutions were chosen based on the company’s acknowledged expertise in delivering integrated, data-driven hatchery technologies,” JAI’s project management team said in a statement.
Bas Kanters, Sales Director for Asia at Pas Reform, added: “We are delighted to be contributing to Jagonya Ayam’s growth in Indonesia and look forward to working with Mr. Koriche and his team on this exciting project.”
Supporting KFC Indonesia supply chain
Founded in 2014, JAI was acquired by PT Fast Food Indonesia (FFI) in 2024. FFI manages over 700 restaurants in the country under the KFC and Taco Bell brands and is a leading player in the food service sector.
JAI supplies chicken for these outlets, and the new investment is expected to meet 35 percent of raw and processed chicken meat needs for FFI’s restaurants in the next five years.
The Kalibaru project aligns with JAI’s broader strategy to establish a fully integrated poultry farming business.
The company is building a system that covers feed production, breeding, hatchery operations, farming, processing, food preparation, and cold storage.
It also aims to run operations that reduce waste and remain environmentally friendly, in line with Indonesia’s food security policies and rising domestic demand.
By expanding its integrated poultry capacity, JAI seeks to strengthen its position as a key supplier to FFI while contributing to Indonesia’s efforts to ensure a reliable food supply.
