The Sonic drill promises accuracy and flexibility for farmers seeking efficient seeding solutions.

FRANCE – Sky Agriculture has introduced its latest innovation, the Sonic precision drill, adding to the growing choice of equipment for farmers.
The company says the new model reflects years of development and a renewed focus on practical solutions for crop production.
The Sonic drill’s defining feature is its accuracy. According to Sky Agriculture, the system can achieve “99% placement accuracy even at speeds exceeding 12kph.”
This performance comes from a finely tuned vacuum system that ensures exact seed positioning without bounce or projection, regardless of crop type.
The design also incorporates a retractable press wheel capable of applying hydraulic downforce of up to 350kg per row unit. The company notes this allows greater stability and penetration, even in demanding field conditions.
An optional load transfer system is also available, which uses tractor weight to increase efficiency across different soil types.
Sky Agriculture has fitted the Sonic with what it calls RowMotion technology. This allows farmers to change row spacing directly in the field instead of returning to the workshop.
“It is this flexibility the company believes supports more diverse rotations and resilient farming systems,” a spokesperson explained.
The drill also introduces a reduced angle for the double discs, set at 9° rather than the common 12°. The company highlights that this change lessens soil disturbance, reduces weed growth, and helps retain soil moisture in spring.
Premium build
The Sonic comes with several standard features, including floating rotary residue managers mounted on parallelogram discs, enabling direct seeding.
Dual-distribution micro-granulators have also been added, which Sky Agriculture says are designed for companion cropping.
The launch of the Sonic follows close behind another significant development in the sector. Last week, Fendt introduced the fourth generation of its 1000 series tractors at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois.
The Fendt 1000 series remains the largest in the brand’s lineup, with models ranging from 426hp to 550hp. The new generation includes the 1040, 1044, 1048 and 1052 models, all equipped with a six-cylinder 12.4L MAN engine and the Fendt iD low-speed concept.
“This design delivers higher torque at lower revs, which improves fuel efficiency and reduces engine wear,” a Fendt spokesperson said.
The tractors operate with a maximum engine speed of 1,700 revolutions per minute, while beginning at just 650rpm. At 1,450rpm, they can reach road speeds of up to 31 miles per hour.
“These machines are built for heavy field and transport work but remain efficient on fuel,” the spokesperson added. “The combination of low revs and high torque makes a real difference in operating costs.”
The introduction of Sky Agriculture’s Sonic drill alongside Fendt’s latest tractors highlights the steady pace of new equipment reaching the market, with both companies stressing efficiency and reliability as key outcomes for farmers.
